scarf attack

So I finally found a good charity that I could actaully participate in. It's the 2006 scarf drive from supernaturale  . I'm a beginner knitter so I know this is something I can actaully participate in and feel good about.

Another part of my day today, is i'm looking for a good blueberry muffin recipe. Do you have one to offer? I'm just looking for a fantastically plain-old-fashioned-delicious muffin recipe. Actaully preferably  a mini muffin recipe but it's not really important either way.

I shall muffin make this weekend!

New Album

I'm in the process of uploading a fwe of my graphic design portfolio samples. It's a little tough to search through months years of old artwork to find stuff to put up that I still like. Some of them are pretty snazzy if I do say so myself! Keep a look out in the upcoming weeks and i'll keep adding more.

The paper cranes are still coming along slowly but surely. I think i'm going to start making 20 a day. That will bring me to my goal without killing my fingertips I think. They will definitly look darling when they're completed. I'll have to start looking for a fantastic container to store them in.

Boy, do I want to get out of work today! What's worse is, I haven't done anything at all. I've been staring at blogs and playing with various projects most of the day. We're always kind of slow at the end of the summer though so I'm not worried. Things will pick up soon and I'll be wishing for days like today.

So, I've been busy. (speaking to the non-existant crowd that didn't ask anyways)

This past weekend I stopped by JoAnn Fabrics for a super-duper long never ending short trip to grab a few things. I picked up some cheap yarn to get a quick remember-how-to-do-it lesson from my beginner knitting book. I also stopped by a lovely little yarn shop to pick up this fantastic sock yarn I read about on their website. It has jojoba oil and aloe in it. I didn't want to start using this yarn until I had a little refresher course on how to actaully knit. The last time I attempted knitting was with chenille. What they schould actaully call it is donteverusethissubstanceforanything. A little long, but it's the truth. It's no wonder I gave up knitting. Anyways, I'm in the process (15%) of working on this lovely army green colored scarf. It's nothing special, but a much better start then the last time.

The next thing I bought, is the makings of stitch markers. It cost just as much to make some markers then it would to just buy the little ugly plastic ones, so I figured, HEY WHY NOT. Those are still not made, but i'm getting to them, don't you worry

I've also been working on making my 1000 paper cranes. Don't get excited i'm only 40/1000. They're a little more complex then the 1000 stars. I haven't decided who i'll give my wish to at the end. I think i'll give it to the boy. He'll surely wish for something wonderful. I couldn't bear to wish for something myself. I'd be so worried I'd ruin it!

So, Where were you? I was sleeping. I had stayed up until about 6 am with my roomate at the time, finishing this horrible project for my design class. This was one of those tedious projects with a rapidograph pen that I would soon grow to dispise. This wasn't just an all-nighter either; This was DAYS in the making. I threw over 3 pads of Bristol in the trash just to make sure those stupid lines were PERFECT. Finally at 6 am, I was done, ready to turn in my masterpiece mediocre work in to the teacher that failed students like it was going out of style. I knew that it was at least passable if not better than so I wasn't too worried. I had worked harder then anyone I knew on that project. 2 Hours later, the first plane hit the World Trade Center. My roomate had not gone to bed still so she was up watching the whole thing, letting me sleep through it. My  mother called me after the second plane hit and told me that we were under attack. I jump out of bed confused about the situation, head into the living room in my undies (not thinking straight) and there were like 15 people in my living room watching it on tv. There I was in my skivies while the world gets attacked - brilliant.

Most of the people in our living room were from New York ( I went to school in Philly ) and DC. I was awake when DC was attacked. I watched as they replayed the planes hitting over and over. There we all were, together, wondering what in the world we were going to do. 3 of the people eventually left to go to New York to try and help. Most of us just decided to get some beer and be with each other. Seemed the best thing to do at the time.

My project due date was postponed for a few more days so people could mourn. There was a definite decrease in students the days following the attacks. Most of the teachers just assumed that people were still grieving. I distinctly remember everyone asking if I knew anyone that died. The little rumors down the halls of school of someone who knew someone who knew someone that died. I remember a girl in my class supposedly had a family member die in WTC 1. She never came back to school to either verify or deny that.

I guess the most vivid part of my experience, was the confusion and the guilt. I felt guilty because I continued to go to school while others could not. I felt guilty that I couldn't relate to the people who were feeling this tradegy deeper then I was. I was confused on how I should respond.

In the present, I have as most people have, moved on. My boyfriend served his country in the "War on Terror" (I won't get into my feelings on that), My bags have been randomly searched in airports, & my gas bill has gone through the roof. Yes, I do remember September 11.

One Step foward

and two steps back.

So yesterday my big blogging plan fell underway. YAY FOR ME! I chose all my little colors, I added new lists of things I wanted to read. Fantastic. I then decided last night to start taking some pictures of some of the wonderous things i'm in the process of creating. Pulled out my hand-me-down digital camera and attempt to take some at least half-way decent pictures of my start of 1000 paper cranes. Where you ask are the pictures? Well, the camera died. And not just died figuratively, it's dead - as a doornail. So it seems that I'll have to start searching for a new camera. I've already found the one I reallllly want, but that might be a little too much for my budget at the moment.

In other news, I'm 98% done on my first ever sewing project. I only have the ties and buttons left to complete. I'm really glad I started slowly this time. In previous projects, I had attempted something super complex and instead of taking my time, I flew through the beginning steps - completely ignoring all of the isntructions. As you can expect, I ruined more then a few projects. This time however, I carefully read every detail. When I didnt understand it, I researched what it was asking of me. Much to my amazement, It actually worked!

I found this great new yarn store near me that sells hand dyed and absolutely wonderful skeins. Again, many years ago I attempted knitting. I figured it out, but soon ruined the "afghan" I was working on. It looked horrible and I never actaully taught myself how to do anything more than straight knitting so it got incredibly boring. I think this weekend I'm going to go talk to the "beginner friendly" staff and try to get an easy pattern for some socks or something. Winter is coming up anyways and i'll be more than happy to knit myself some pretty socks.

Oh well, off to work to waste away another day.

ahh the fresh smell of new beginnings

well, I decided after years of lurking on various weblogs, I'd just go ahead and start my own. Now, I can't promise that oh so fantastic wit and humour that many people posess, but I can promise that no one will read it anyways.
